4 Content Styles That Drive Business Revenue
Content creation can be the most potent form of marketing when done correctly.
Since June 2022, I've been posting content regularly across 5 different platforms. This has enabled me to grow an audience of over 25,000 people, and more importantly close over $400k in revenue for my businesses.
Throughout this time period, I have constantly revised my strategy around content creation. No matter what service you provide or product you sell, these 4 content styles are essential for every entrepreneur building their personal brand.
Content Style 1: Alignment
Customers buy from people when they feel connection.
This is why it's essential to display your core values, beliefs, and personality. Take Coffee Shop Nation for example...
- We hate the wasted time and environmental pollution caused by commuting to an office.
- We loooove working in our ideal environments: coffee shops, by the pool, and at home.
- We love expressing ourselves through content, but serving people through our business.
There's many more traits, but you get the idea. We openly display who we are, what we stand for, and that's probably why you're reading this newsletter in the first place. You enjoy (or hate) these things too.
If you want people to feel connected and buy from you, wear your heart (and personality) on your sleeve.
Content Style 2: Thought Leadership
Nothing says "I know my sh*t" quite like contrarian takes or future industry insights.
Thought leadership content not only proves your knowledge, but it makes people think. When you can make people think, your brand starts becoming top of mind when it comes time to partner with an expert.
One of my favorite creators who does amazing with this style of content is an entrepreneur by the name of Sun Yi.
He asks himself this question before he posts any piece of content: "does this make my audience say 'huh, I never thought of it that way' ..."
He's turned this approach into his entire tagline. It works. How do I know it works? Whenever I think of interesting and through proving content, I think of Sun Yi.
He's all about providing unique points of view, and everyone needs to mix their own POVs into their content.
Content Style 3: Unique Education
Educational content is in a weird place at this point in time. Some creators swear it's useless, others only post educational content.
In my opinion educational content is great, it's how you phrase the content that counts. Compare these 2 groups of hooks:
Group 1:
- How to X
- X tools to do Y
- X tips to accomplish Y
Group 2:
- How I X
- X tools I use to accomplish Y
- The framework I teach client to achieve X
Group 1 is educational, but generic. Group 2 is not only educational, but builds trust and credibility. The key to great educational content is making it specific to you, your business, and your processes.
Good rule of thumb: if you can Google it and get the answer, your educational content isn't unique. Focus on bringing inside looks into your educational content.
Content Style 4: Proof of Results
Customers buy from you when they trust you'll deliver results. There's no better way to prove you deliver results than to openly display case studies.
A friend of mine, Jacob Pegs, has a simple framework he follows to display his business coaching program delivers the goods.I love this framework because any one of you can start using it today (to generate more revenue from your content)
Look at and read the following image, then continue on for the breakdown.
First, he highlights the client's struggle and why she joined his program.
He amplifies the pain with "she was posting online but not getting clients." But immediately follows up with his solution ... "this is what we did."
Then there's a vivid picture of all the success that follows...
- "Positioned as a market leader."
- "Signed annual memberships."
- "Got 10 inquiries inbound"
All of which are goals his target audience would love to achieve.
This is a simple storytelling framework that works for sales content. It tells a "before working with Jacob" versus an "after working with Jacob"
Apply client case studies in this framework in your own content strategy — I guarantee you'll start getting more inbound leads.
Start working in these 4 content styles into the mix, and watch as better and bigger results head your way!
TL:DR
1. Connect with like-minded people
2. Make people think in a new way
3. Educate and show behind the scenes
4. Provide before vs after case studies
