How To Name Your Offers and Courses So People Get Excited To Buy

How To Make A Great Name Your Offer Or Course Fast

Coming up with names for your offers and products is tough. And the wrong name, whether boring or unclear, will tank your sales. A bad name is a challenge to overcome.

This concept even applies to names outside of business offers or courses — ever hear someone's personal name and think, "oof, that's.... unique."

So yea, what you name something is important. It impacts perception in a huge way.

If you want to name your offer quickly—and effectively—follow this 5 step process. I guarantee it'll help your next launch generate more sales and you'll have a great name within the hour.

Step 1: List the problem you're solving

You should already know the problem you're solving given you're building the solution.

So this step is straight forward and simple. It's crucial to write this down as part of the process however since it will impact your choice for names.

Step 2: List out the activities your target audience does (poorly) right now

When it comes to great names, demonstrating knowledge of your customers current process is key.

This step may not make sense right away, so stick with me if you want to name your next product something great.

But when I say demonstrate knowledge of what your customer is going through now, I mean making a list of their current day-to-day, or the processes surrounding those tasks.

For example, imagine a Canva expert. They're selling a course on Canva basics to new users. They might list out the following audience struggles (to start):

1. Navigating the UI: no use of hotkeys and their current settings are not ideal

2. Only using templates because they don't understand how to edit photos and elements to look nice

3. Slow implementation of brand guidelines on templates because they don't know how to use the brand kit feature

*for the sake of time, I'll stop at 3 here as you get the idea*

Based on this list we can now move to step 3 and generate some catch phrases

Step 3: Formulate catchy phrases based on the activity list

We're still not naming our offer yet, but this step is the most fun.

Now all you're going to do is take some keywords from your list above and start making "fun" phrases with them. Why? Because great offer names are repeatable and memorable.

And nothing is more repeatable and memorable that something catchy and fun. That song you can't stop singing in your head right now is great proof of this at work...

Here's some examples I can create just on that 1-2-3 list above:

1. Lightning Keys (derived from no use of hotkeys)

2. Ditch the Template (derived from only using templates)

3. Kit Kat Canva (derived from not implementing brand kits)

None of these make sense right now? Like I said... that's ok.

Step 4: List out the dream outcome for a customer

Your offer should take your customer from point A (pain) → point B (relief)

In step 1 we listed their current pain. Now we need to list what will make them feel better.

Another way to think about this is "what promise am I making to customers?"

Step 5: Putting it altogether with a transformation and name

At this point we have listed the problem, solution, and come up with some catchy phrases.

Now we need to put all of this together with an outcome based title.

The idea here is to state our client desired transformation in a catchy format. This is why we spent some time having some fun in step 3.

Here's a full example of this entire process in action, continuing our "Canva course" idea.

Problem: First time social media manager doesn't know how to effectively setup and navigate Canva, resulting in bad designs and slow use.

Dream outcome: Make my boss happy by producing beautiful social media content, faster.

Solution: A self-paced video course showing customers how to properly navigate the Canva UI, implement best settings, and core tips for producing beautiful designs (without templates).

Offer Name: "Canva Pro Fast-Track" or "Lightning-Speed Canva Designs"

These blend the outcome of "speeding up Canva" with a little bit of fun.

Let's say you want to focus on more beautiful canva designs instead...

Offer name: Devine Canva Designs

I like this one because it rhymes. Again, fun and repeatable—yet still focused on the outcome of the course.

An Example Offer Name From Me:

I've been building a digital course on offer creation for my community, the Laptop Lounge.

It's called Money-Printing Offers

The outcome of the course is understanding how to package and present offers in a way that generates more sales.

So money-printing is a fun way to signal that outcome.

In summary: fun + outcome based. That's the method for finding great offer names.
